A Day in the Life of Sassi Holford

Sassi has popped by with her fist post ever on Pip Pip (Filippa ’s been our only designer to post thus far) to share insight into a day in the life of a bridal designer.  She’ll be posting here regularly, please do stop by to read more.  For now, a warm welcome to Sassi!

Pip Pip!  – Betty

After depositing my three children at their various schools, weather depending I often use pedal power as a time saver –beating the rush hour traffic and reducing Hermione coat tail flapping and changing into heels I begin my day.

Touching base with my key players I update myself – especially if I have just returned from a trip. The workroom and the current orders always get priority – discussing clients bespoke orders, looking at new fabrics for the next collection, or exactly how I would like a dress to proceed from what’s ready on the mannequin.

Becky, my PA, delivers an amended schedule each week and makes sure I’m where I’m supposed to be (not to mention time out for organizing planes, trains and automobiles). Then there’s the really important stuff that she takes care of ordering the champagne that I would like to have at the launch; choosing the right shade of lip gloss to go in a goody bag and of course –making sure that the chocolates arrive on time for those same good bags intended for those that plan on Lunch –I try and have 20 minutes in the office with Martin, my husband and Jill covering marketing finance and all matters regarding this command centre.

There is always a show or launch in the planning whether it is the DWS, NY Couture or special promotions in my two boutiques. In the afternoons I decide who and where I’m going to descend! Usually I work on patterns and whilst dealing with any queries that come my way. On a relaxed day I leave at 4pm to spend time with my 9 year old twins and this also gives me time to cook supper –which satisfies my love of food too! If I’m not already in, I always make sure I’m back for 6pm when my 13 year old, Charles, returns from school.

As I spend quite a lot of time away in London and abroad, dinner with my family around the table, when possible, is sacrosanct. Many evenings we feed a spare be it more children, models staying over before a shoot the next day, or Oliver, on a flying visit with a view to discuss all matters relative to our friends across the Atlantic.

Once the children have been despatched to bed and calm resumes, I grab the opportunity to tie up any loose ends from my day – should this happen with the addition of a glass of wine…so be it!
